Hm, it seems that your doctor is partially on the right track - when people don`t exercise and are not physically active , muscles often start to twitch because they literally start to deteriorate. Your doctor wants you to exercise to keep your muscles alive, otherwise your condition will worsen. Like Butch said, pinched nerve also can cause problem.In addition - you are most probably lacking Magnesium and Calcium - necessary for health of the nerves and muscles: e.
G without enough of Magnesium in the body, muscles can be so painful and in constant spasm that one can literally scream ...and we don`t get it in the food (especially if diet is bad) so we need to use it in supplements. If this is the case, pain, spasms and twitching can sometimes completely disappear already after few days of use of Magnesium supplement. But healthy diet and exercize is still important...to keep any of us alive.
I would recommend you get to a Neurologist as soon as possible. It could be anything from Fibromyalgia to a serious nervous disorder and anything in between. You should get a second or third opinion.

I'm not a doctor so I don't want to say too much, but I would hope that since you are having neurological issues, your nutrient levels have been checked. Potassium and magnesium for instance are both really important for proper neurological functioning (among other things). All sorts of things can affect your nutrient levels; starting or stopping a medication, body changes, changes in diet, illness, etc.Did anything major happen around the time you started having symptoms?
Could be a clue. I'm not saying this is what's happening - just an idea. Doesn't sound right to me for a doctor to be prescribing exercise to someone who is having mysterious pain.

I think your doctor is right about the exercize, but 5 days a week is a little over-kill for a new life style. Try every other day or 3 times a week to start out.By using your muscles more, they become in a more natural relaxed state at the end of the day, hence, they're too tired to twitch! If I were you, I would try those two things for a couple of weeks, if there is no improvement, get a second opinion.

You may have hurt your spine and have a pinched nerve. A chiropractor may help. If the doctor has you on no sugar I'm going to assume you may be overweight.
But twitching is a problem with the nervous system. Did the doctor look into your eyes with a flashlight? If not see another doctor who does that... he is trying to find evidence of a brain tumor by doing that.
Some women have back pain because they have large breasts. That requires finding a better support bra such as a sports bra.

You may have a Mineral deficiency. Probably Magnesium. Look up Cal-Mag on Google and get some for yourself.
