Why do people claim that the USA was founded as a "Christian" nation when the 1796 treaty of Tripoli?

The U.S. was not founded as an extension of a religion or to serve a religion. The U.S. has way more foundation in individual rights which include the right to choose your own religion. That is why the government is prohibited from using law to promote religion.

If the U.S. were founded to be a christian nation then you would think that the bible would be the ultimate law of the land. However, that is not true. The U.S. Constitution is the ultimate law of the land.

The founding fathers placed the U.S. Constitution above the bible. That does not sound like the work of men creating a christian nation. Another thought on the subject is there are no provisions in the U.S. Constitution that prohibit a person from a non-christian religion from being president, congressman, senator, or supreme court justice.

There are no provisions keeping christianity the majority in the U.S. We could easily have another religious group come into dominance. There is nothing stopping it from happening.

The US was founded as a secular nation because the founders were to a large extent fleeing religious persecution in Europe. The UK is still founded on religious principles with the head of state the head of the church of England and bishops with automatic seats in teh upper house. It was this sort of arrangement which allowed religious persecution to happen and the founders wished to avoid.

The problem is that christians rather tend to persecute one another so once you have a non-secular state you end up with people squabbling over the "right" sort of christianity. Its rather ironic that in many ways the non-secular nations are less religious than the secular ones like the Us.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
