Why do so many of the Amazon 90% off items have fraudulent list prices?

There are silly thing like toilet seats with a $747 list price (on sale for $15, woohoo! ) and chrome polish (list price, $189...sure). What's the deal with this and why does Amazon allow it?

It's likely a mass technical hiccup for items that aren't available individually. What you’ll want to consider is whether or not the items in question can actually be purchased individually. From running a business of my own in the past I happen to know that certain items can only be sourced in mass quantity and since I’m guessing Amazon is listing prices via an eletronic system... it’s not Bob in the back manually reviewing and keying in each of their millions of product listings... you might be seeing a list price for mass quantity.

Then again I suppose $747 for a toilet seat isn’t too unrealistic since the US Government once paid in excess of $4000 through a contracter for a toilet seat for Air Force One. I agree it’s a bit crazy to see those listing prices, but keep in mind it’s not what they are actually charging us which is what matters in the end I suppose! Since Askville isn’t a customer service forum and answers don’t come from Amazon Customer Service, you may want to ask them directly about something like this.

I dug up their number from a Google search: 1.800.201.7575. You may also want to use the little form they have at the bottom of the item’s page to sugguest that the list price statistics appear to be incorrect. Sources: Google, Peronal Experience .

The list price is usually the price for the originally released product.....or the price for the product when it hit the market originally. The amazon price usually does get reduced through time, however the list price is never modified. That’s why you can see a huge discount.

The items may have been in the market for a couple of years, been discontinued, released a newer line or any other scenario where a previously released product, reduces it value drastically because it is no longer top of the line. An example could be the iPod accessories that used the jack connector, and when apple decided to remove the jack from its newer models, that product turned itself useless for the new generation iPods.

Suggested Retail Price Manufacturers and publishers all establish "suggested retail prices". They are usually higher than most stores offer the items. On books, the prices are easy to see.

They are listed right on the book or book cover. And the ones I saw all are the same as Amazon's "list price". So, it's not fraud. It's just not a great deal.

The list price was put in wrong if you check the other number toilet seats you will find that their list price is 17.79. Its a website error. Cant imagine that happening..

It's a joke refering to the Congressional investigations that uncovered contracted suppliers charging the Defense Department and other government agencies outrageous prices for toilets seats and brass polish, as well as many other items - screws, pens, etc. Sources: .

Amazon wish list do items get removed if bought.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
