Maybe it is in their microscopic little minds, but why do they feel the need to push their beliefs onto others to discuss non-religious topics?(This has nothing to do with this place, but if the shoe fits......) I'm Christian, but understand your pain. Theres a time and place. My Pastor preaches ministering with actions, not words.
Maybe try to be patient with them,as I am with you.
I suppose they've been "indoctrinated" about spreading the Good News as their teachings instruct them to do. However, without a religious overtone, the good news can just as well be LOVE and COMPASSION instead of a particular form of dogma that believers are required to accept and conform to. If the fundamentalists took a brief tour of world religions they'd realize they are not alone in their beliefs of One God.P.S. - God never made a religion.
God is LIFE.
OH Maybe you should put the pipe down and sober up.Wow. Talk about off topic, rude, and insulting.
Hmmm, I don't spout scripture for everything.....and I am definitely a "fundamentalist. " As for my microscopic little mind, with it I have achieved both a Bachelors and a Master's degree (in areas that have no connection to religion) and finally (sorry I know that apparently my mere act of speaking offends you by the wording of the question you posted), I don't push my beliefs on anyone.
Your last 7 words says it all and you are to be commended. There are so many who could learn so much from you. OldppieHatesNewAV 1 month ago .
I apologize for my snappiness, OH, just happened upon your question at a time when I was frustrated with something else....you have every right not to have people try and force their beliefs on you........people do it to me also and I don't like it either.
I can't imagine fundies consider themselves smart. I believe they realize they lack education and relevant information. I believe this because they are soooo defensive and defensiveness requires specific behavioral parameters and fundies exhibit them in spades.
OH you are in a city where you have EVERY type...and the school is full of everything else. So you will get more than the average bear. For some their religion is All they have, for others, doing for others is their religion, and some think what is happening in the world today scriptural and is coming about so to them it does have a religious foundation.
But they are not all Fundamentalist, you will find them in every religion on earth. Just try not to get into conversation with them over any thing stronger than Global warming, and baby diapers filling the land fills, or will it snow before Christmas .
1. Money2. PowerIt makes the world go 'round, and religion is no exception.
The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason" (Proverbs 26:16). "Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me" (Psalm 119:98). And since we all know that God's word is true (while humans keep changing their minds), we know that one following God's word is wiser than anyone who won't.
I find the book of Acts very interesting. Your answer might lie there.
I think every religion believes they have God's personal ear, and that their particular doctrine is the one true faith. However, like politics, not everyone believes the same thing, which is why it's advisable never to discuss either politics or religion in mixed company.
It's kind of mutually exclusive. They disdain education but know everthing because they "study" the bible. Don't underrate their power in the US right now.
They require Republican candidates to be fundamentalists or disappear and that is destroying the moderate thinking we need so desperately. Basically if you look at a Puritan village you'll see the dynamics planned for the country. And I don't think Americans really want to deal with that level of insanity.
Fundamentalists believe some pretty strange things. I think a person comes to believe such things because they want it to be true and so they convince themselves it is true by finding reasons why it is so. So how can a person learn what really is true?
By searching, pondering, and praying. If a person does this, the Holy Ghost will help the person know with certainty what is true. Org/study/topics/holy-ghost?

Fundamentalists are strict...are even hard on themselves. They don't know the God of love/mercy/grace...but mostly revenge of Old testament.
I am a Agnostic and don't see why people get so offended when religion is brought up.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
