Because they get their money from big corporations that have a large enough pool to offer health insurance. The GOP has opposed any public health care program, since Teddy Roosevelt first proposed it in 1912 and ended up losing the GOP nomination. Elements of the GOP still want to repeal Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
At one time, the AMA, doctors, insurers, and small businessmen were also dead-set against it, but due to the astronomical costs that many cannot pay, most have come to realize that a public plan is needed. Health insurance costs are one of the big job killers that prevent small businesses from hiring qualified people and prevent foreign companies (who do not pay for health insurance in their countries) from locating in the USA. Along with our dysfunctional immigration policy, it was a major reason that our manufacturing went away too.
We need universal health care or insurance. But as usual, instead of coming up with a consistent plan that helps individuals and small businesses, we've enacted a political compromise that will certainly have to be amended as time shows that the absence of a public option makes it inadequate to control costs.
The most basic issue is that how is health care made more affordable by this act if every single benefit of it requires higher insurance rates and government subsidies. Also the subsidies are based on a certain number of employees. If the business goes over that number, they lose their subsidy.
This will restrain growth. There are consequences to everything government does. Both sides of an issue have to be taken into account.
What is the future impact on small businesses for the long haul. Subsidies require higher taxes. How much more in taxes are people willing to pay along with the higher price of health insurance?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
