Beck, who converted to Mormonism in the last decade, may believe that Obama's religion is a "perversion," but given the criticisms of his own chosen faith, he should perhaps tread more lightly when critiquing another man's Christianity: Mormons frequently have to contend with allegations that they are not 'real' Christians: 45% of white Evangelicals say that they do not believe that Mormons are Christians, according to a Pew poll. Anything to whip his followers into a froth. They like frothing, he likes whipping, match made in heaven. There is nothing very Christ like in any of their behavior, if you ask me, but I'm an atheist, so what do I know?
He said this about President Obama's religion: ""liberation theology":"You see, it's all about victims and victimhood; oppressors and the oppressed; reparations, not repentance; collectivism, not individual salvation. I don't know what that is, other than it's not Muslim, it's not Christian. It's a perversion of the gospel of Jesus Christ as most Christians know it," Beck said.

Talk about being in a glass house...The evangelicals are NOT amused by Beck's perversion of the gospel for monetary gain. They truly believe that Mormon is a Satanic cult. (Check out conservative Christian site "Christian Newswire.")Not going over as planned.
Here's an interesting oped by Mahatma Ghandi's grandson, on Beck's comments:newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/pane... .
Does Mr. Beck's God awaken only when America is about to go to the polls?" NormanL 15 months ago .
Extreme points of view pull/distort information/facts to empower their position. It is a big sign of inferiority complex type behavior. I consider it an indication of extremism - also known as showmanship or entertaining.
People want the President's power and his job. So they find out what people (in general) do not like and say that is what the President does. It is political propaganda.
Never trust anyone who believes their own propaganda. They can use it. But they should never believe it.
This is different from reasoned discussion - and that is what we have here. We all can believe what we say here.
I think it's just another way to discredit our president. The truth is that a man's religion is his own business but the right wing is making accusations that he is not an American... from not being born here, to his name, to his religion. I'm really disturbed at how many people are riling the populace with half truths, inuendoes and lies.It seems un-American to me but I guess we have McCarthy and the John Birch Society as historic examples of pushing an agenda, but these attacks seem even more vicious and personal.
The fact that Rupert Murdock has an entire network banging the drums every day, and contributes to organizations to bring down this administration concerns me. It astounds me that someone like Beck who, at best is misguided, and at the worse is mentally ill is making millions from this garbage. But, then, Sarah Palin disturbs me as well with her right-wing racist comments.
The fact that she is popular with this kind of rhetoric is troubling. I just hope the American people are smart enough to see through all of this, but when they interview people at the Beck rally who say this president isn't for the Constitution, I feel despair.
What a sad, disillusioned piece of work Glenn Beck is. The truly nauseating thing is that he actually seems to have carved out a niche for himself in this country...The blind leading the blind. It certainly doesn't speak to the IQ of those who buy into his miasmic, skewered perception of reality.
What snake oil salesman wouldn't want to learn a few tricks from him? Glenn Beck has completely lost it when it comes to Obama. He just cannot help himself.
Next he'll be attacking his shoes for some reason, and it would make just as much sense. I almost feel sorry for the pud. I'm very sorry that he has reproduced.
There is a high probability that his children will inherit the ignorance of their father. Religion shouldn't matter in this country. Glenn Beck should be ashamed of himself.
He's trying to create America to be an offshoot of Christianity. Could he be any more dense? Obviously I don't care for the man-boy.
When I first began following politics it seemed like people on the left did that mostly but as decades passed it has become more inevitable that right and left would morph into the same organism, sic to conspire against the 'little people' .
I recently came back on Askville and it it so nice to find smart and funny people to chat with. I began my re-induction to Askville by mentioning mad man's name. Beck must find something and he is really grasping at straws.
Small changes ARE getting done for the better of this country. How long has this mentally disturbed man had his religion? Perhaps Sarah Palin gave hi m his own personal baptism, as shown from her video of her church and tales of her baptism.
Here I go again. I a m better off OFF the computer. L .
That one is simple. If our own President has lied about whether he was a Moslem/is a Moslem/sympathizes with Moslems while the nation he is Chief Executive of is in the midst of a war against Moslem terrorists, that would be a HUGE reason to disqualify him from his post. Not that any replacement would be an improvement.
I remember libs accusing GWB of being a coke head with absolutely no evidence to prove it. They are both wrong but is one more wrong than another? .
You raise two issues. The first has to do with the integrity of the President and whether or not his support of Islam is based on his religious views or political views or both. Beck is saying that Black Liberation Theology is more of a political doctrine than a religious one.
He is postulating that those who adhere to BLT are forced to change society to gain their own salvation. That salvation is NOT based on an individual's belief but on the community's belief. If this is true, then it explains much of the CHANGE the administration is trying to create in America.Beck is saying, IMHO, that if you look at Obama's support of Islam, it is hard to believe it is purely political.
He thinks there is an emotional element involved and that emotion is tied to his early roots in Islam when he lived in Indonesia. Is Obama a Muslim at his core? Who knows?
He says no, so I think you have to believe him. But that does not mean he is ambivalent towards Islam and their struggle to gain position and prestige. As for Beck and Mormonism, the second issue, it is true he converted.
But if you listen carefully to Beck's religious statements, he still retains many of his Catholic beliefs. It does not seem he has swallowed the Koolaide - even though he has drunk it. He still seems to retain many of the basic Christian doctrinal tenants.
I don't agree Beck needs to have his own religious house in order before he can comment on Obama's political decisions about Islam. Questioning Obama's motivation seems to be fair game in many quarters. Is Obama's support of the Mosque and other pro Islam positions the result of a deep seated belief in Islam or is it consistent with his "we are the world" philosophy. It is certainly something worth discussing and understanding as it will impact America for decades to come.
Glenn Beck reminds me of "Lonesome Rhodes. "bit.ly/aHmBJW .
When you have a strong conviction or belief (religion - politics - or anything else), and you come across.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
