Why does my laptop computer FAN for no apparent reason? What does that fanning mean?

If the fan is turning on it is probably trying to cool a component that it senses is too hot.

If the fans run erratically it could indicate the fans or vents are clogged with dust. You might consider inspecting the vents and using a can of compressed air to clean them if needed.

Fans can also fail over time and may need to be replaced by a technician.
