Why does my water in my 3 foot fish tank stay cloudy?

1 Cloudy water is caused by various things...But it can be changed to clear:Make sure you are performing proper aquarium maintenance on your aquarium. Aquariums that have been receiving proper aquarium maintenance rarely have cloudy water if this is the case with your aquarium check to make sure the filtration system is able to handle the size of tank you have it on in conjunction with the number of fish you're trying to keep. I do not know what your doing..but logic will get you to clear waters....Filters and pump gallon ability are major factors, and not overfeeding the waters is a major cause.

Often if your filter system is too small for the size of the aquarium you're attempting to filter you may have high ammonia or nitrite levels. When you are feeding you fish if there is extra food left over after a few minutes then you may be overfeeding. Over feeding means there is to much food being added to quickley to the tanks.

Try reducing the amount of food thats being added at one time. In some cases the water quality is perfect but the water is still cloudy. Check how many gallons per hour your filter system produces, your filter should be turning over the total volume of your aquarium a minimum of three times per hour preferably five to eight times per hour.

If your filter system is not turning over enough water per hour particulate matter will not be caught up in the filter quick enough and you will see it floating around in your aquarium. To increase circulation you can add submersible water pumps / power heads, an air pump with an air stone or a larger filter system will help fix your cloudy aquarium. Many things can be done...so do not give up...use logic to discover what is causing yours!

Overfeeding is most likely the cause of unclear water, although surely not the only one. There are many reasons: first I’d look at your feeding schedule. Try to give half of what you’ve been giving, and analyze the results.Do all your testing with a fresh tank, of course.

When your fish leave much of their food, it causes contamination. You may have to note the difference carefully, since the food can dissipate or fall to the bottom of the tank quickly prior to its turning the water cloudy. You may want to try different food--I’ve noticed that some foods tend to be more of a problem than others.

If that’s not the cause, you may have too much light or heat which causes growth of various fungi and other marine problems. Find out how much light/heat is recommended for the size of your aquarium and how much your fish need. Keep your aquarium at the recommended temperature for your fish as well as the size of your tank.

I’m happy that you included ’electronics’ in your question, because your water may need to be heated in the winter if you live in the north, and of course you want light for the fish and to see the beauty you’ve created, in addition to the pumps which are necessary for oxygen. Since you have the oxygen equipment, you can easily keep your aquarium covered, (their are many types on the market) which will serve to keep out ambient dust and other contaminants that would fall into the water from everyday movement.

You can also introduce scavengers into your tank--it’s easy, and they clean up an amazing amount of unwanted debris. Snails also contribute to taking care of unwanted fungi and other unwanted contamination. Watch them though; they multiply like rabbits!

Electronics can also come into play if your tank is not thoroughly cleaned regularly. The tubes can become contaminated, and various plants may begin their growth there. If I had one piece of advice, it’s to be certain to keep your aquarium very clean.

Also, keep any electronics or tubes clean as well. Once a week does it for me, but that’s only for a 40 gallon.In addition, I’d buy everything new and clean it thoroughly and ’prep’ it before introducing it into your tank. Your water may be a problem.

Most cities have a water testing kit that’s free and will tell you about the quality of your water. The pH is so very necessary to both the fish and their environment. Test the water you put into your aquarium to begin with.

If you put your water in straight from your faucet, be certain that it sits for a couple of hours to let the gases dissipate prior to putting in your newly cleaned scenery pieces and other parts of your waterscape.It’s a lot of work, isn’t it, and worth every bit of it! I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
