Why doesn't the hair dye ever cover my gray hair completely?

I have been coloring my hair for years now and from what I have been able to determine from my own experience is there are few reasons why the gray may not be covered completely. First of all one of the things that has happened to me, is that I once had light brown hair, however as the years went by and my hair became more gray, I found that I could no longer use this shade of hair color on my head. Why, because the fact that it was so light it no longer gave me proper coverage, and within a few days the gray was back.

I also had a horrible experience with the shade of auburn, lets just say I had purple highlight in my hair for awhile, not pretty. So what did I have to do, well if I didn’t want to go completely gray I had to go to a darker shade of hair color that wasn’t prone to highlights such as auburn. I ended up going to a dark brown or black color in order to insure that my gray was indeed covered.

Also when coloring your hair you might want to try using a fine tooth comb this helps to get the hair color through every strand of hair. Another thing you might want to do is consult a beautician, they might be able to tell you what hair color would be most effective to cover your gray, and I have found that some of my best hair color treatments were given to me by my beautician. Yes, I know that this could become expensive if you cover your gray every three months like I do, but going to a beautician the first time to get their input wouldn’t hurt.
