There is a constant battle for our "mind-share". The news/current events not only "inform" us but also give us something to worry about. Even if there is nothing bad happening in "your town" the media will report on the murder rate in a neighboring town.
If it's a real "slow news night" they'll talk about something that took place across the country or around the world so much so that you will forget NOTHING actually happened to YOU. There is always something for you to worry about. ( A new flu, unemployment, falling housing prices, civil unrest in other countries, earthquakes, inflation, oil prices going up, oil rigs exploding, plane crashes, crime, political gridlock...etc)Many of us start our mornings off listening to news in the car on the way to work and we watch it just before we close our eyes for the night. In addition to the news most of us know of a friend, family member, or co-worker who is going through a hard time and it resonates with us.
Empathy is nothing more than "imagining" ourselves being in another person's shoes! Your pain becomes my pain and vice versa. It’s human nature to empathize. Several years ago a girlfriend and me along with another couple rented a cabin up in Big Bear Mountain for the weekend in Southern California (no radio, no television, no cell phones).
In those days we had an old cassette player which was used to play music we had on tape. We romped around in the snow by day, cooked meals, lit the fireplace, played board games and cards as well as drank our fair share and laughed quite a bit. Although we were only gone from Friday to late Sunday afternoon it felt like we had been away from the world for at least a week.
Everyone commented on how rested and refreshed they were. Essentially it was a major “time out”. My mind felt a sense of shell shock once I came down from the mountain.
It seemed like the news was full of negative stories, sports results, stock market losses, and entertainment scandals..etc I believe it’s necessary to stay informed but I also believe it’s healthy to “check out” every now and then in addition to looking for positive things to take in. Most of the things we worry about never happen! "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow.
It empties today of its strength." - Corrie Ten Boom.
Becuase so many bad things happen all around us. The news just can't wait to report it either.
Having a positive mind set is a choice. People put themselves in positions where there are negative influences. Too many people have herd mentality so they go with the crowd influenced by negative beings.
I choose to not listen to the news because this negative mind is promoted by the media. I set up my room and my home with positive things and I do not let people in my domain. I like temples and churches and spiritual places where people tend to have a more positive attitude.
Once I made the choice to not deal with negative people and just walk away from them, wishing them the best, I never looked back. The choice is yours! Best wishes.
I believe that much has to do with the fact that we are beat up so much by negativety, that one has to work at staying positive.
We as a society are no longer proactive or accountable. We depend on outside influences to make us happy, motivate us, or build our confidence. We no longer believe this power comes from within us.
Those who have a positive attitude take responsibility for the things that happen to them. When tough times come their mentality is what can I do next time to prevent this, not why did this happen to me. When everything is handed to us we lose the skills that enables us to have a positive attitude.
Staying positive is not really difficult. Being negative is just a bad habit. If we practice being positive over and over again, that too will eventually become a habit.
The two things that are most likely to keep us in a negative frame of mind are TV and other people. Thoughts behave in a vicious circle - the more negative we are, the more negative we will stay - the more positive we are the more positive we will stay. In the same way that we are inluenced by the negativity of others, they can be influenced by our positivity.
Only by changing ourselves in this way, can we start to change the world.
I speak from experience when I say that it's just easier to believe the bad stuff.
It takes all of a human being energy on the earth to let negative thoughts have a person to so easily give in to it because it is the least resistant path for human beings to live their life on the earth. So people put your energy in high gear with your free will and you will have a positive attitude in life. I am enjoying my positive attitude in life.

Cuz life is life. People can expect it to cater to them when life doesn't cater to others. They get caught in wishing life wasn't life which stops them from having a positive attitude.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
