The Tea Party was funded by the Koch Brothers who each have approximately $21 billion dollars. Their father founded the John Birch Society, which is an extreme right wing organization. They want to drag US society, kicking and screaming, back to the days of Little House on the Prairie.
Tea Party members are basically pseudo-christian political Luddites who are typically reactionary. They know what they don't like, and they don't like very much. They believe the rich are entitled to run the nation, although they only vote for the people who are killing the US economy.
If they get their way, there will be no Social Security, which means old people and the infirm will be homeless and hungry. They don't believe in unemployment which means that those who lose their jobs because of Wall St actions will suffer while those who put them out of work profit. They don't like the idea of anyone getting help from the government...unless it's them.
