I can't answer why. But I would agree that the interface is temperamental. Some buttons work some of the time but not necessarily the same on all pages. It seems that some of the older pages are built on different templates so behave differently.
I used to be able to add links of my choosing and re-arrange them to show what I felt are the most important. On some of the older pages I can delete items but not add. The new related pages section now usually displays as a list rather than rows of "|" separated terms.
But sometimes it does show up as separated terms. Sometimes the buttons show up and work properly when I'm on a fast network but when there is latency nothing happens. My hope is that there will be some consistency on the interface. Right now if a button is not working then I just wait for another day and try again ... try on a different computer or different browser version ... or unfortunately .... don't bother to fix it.
I suspect if I deleted the old sections and replaced them with new ones I might get more consistent behavior. But I'm always afraid to delete something when there isn't a way to backup or recover the data. I think those of us who have been on Mahalo for awhile just have learned to ignore the idiosyncrasies and do the best we can.
But I do hope the developers actually test the toolkits on different browsers and slow connections (e.g. , real world) - not just hooked to the server a few meters away as they are in Santa Monica.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
