The Indian sub-continent was originally located to the east of Africa. (As was Saudi Arabia). It has migrated north by the action of plate tectonics. It collided with the landmass of Asia, and the malaya massif (and Tibetan Plateau etc) has been raised by this collision.
This migration continues today. Thus the high mountains there Several of the world's mountain chains have a similar collision origin, the Appalachians in the US, and the Caucasus at the junction of Europe and Asia.
