He's not tied to big business or dirty party politics. Seems to be a decent fellow. I think he'll make a better president than any of the other candidates.

He would make a great candidate While I think he'd make a great candidate, and is very popular, there is a problem in the US. No politician can accomplish anything without being tied to big business. The president could be anyone you want, they will not accomplish anything unless they can get the support of congress, and that means getting the support of big business.
Unless you could get a majority of congress to be idealistic and not tied to big business, you would never see a major change in government. Of course it would cause changes in the Iraq war, and a few things like that, but so will electing the right candidate that is already in the race. Sources: my opinion .
I think Colbert would be great on domestic issues. Someone that is not tied to party politics and big money donations from corporations or unions or religious groups etc. is what this country needs. I would like to believe that such a person would surround himself or herself with the best people and then make rational decisions.
And if that person was an independent, he or she would have nothing to lose by playing hardball with Congress. Aside from Iraq, Bush's largest problem was never standing up to the Republican Congress on spending. We need someone that veto spending bills.
I am afraid that if Hillary Clinton wins the Presidency the Democrats in Congress will raise taxes and spending and the deficit will never be under control. People seem to think that Bill Clinton balanced the budget but what really happened was the Democrats lost control of Congress in 1994 and the Republicans and Clinton had gridlock for six years. They didn't pass a single huge spending bill or launch a new entitlement program.
Fast forward to the Bush presidency and Congress piles on with a Medicare drug benefit that almost nobody wanted. I am worried that someone like Colbert would be completely lost in foreign policy. At least on the domestic front the President has powers to steer things the way he or she wants.
And while special interests will always act int their best interests, foreign powers will not only act in their best interests but also actively try to thwart the United States. Foreign leaders will pretty much do whatever they want.
1 Perhaps the best candidate, since he can say what he thinks. Not the best Prsident.

2 Well, he doesn't want to be President. He wants to run for President. So that's okay.

3 First, they already made a movie about this, and it was a bad movie. Second, he's the best candidate because he really doesn't want the job.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
