Why not go back to setting a national limit of say, 65. Does anyone really need to go any faster? Seems to me, it would save lives and fuel.

There are many reasons that cars don't have governors on them. One would be in the case of an emergency such as needing to get to a hospital. Another would be if you were being chased by someone that was trying to hurt you, although this is extremely rare.

The biggest reason auto manufacturers don't install governors on cars is because local municipalities make a great deal of their income off of police officers giving speeding tickets to those who break the speed limit! Think about it. I don't know how many tickets the average person gets in a lifetime, but think about your friends, family, coworkers etc.Add up all of that money and think what a contribution that makes to each and every county/city across the country!

If nothing else each cop probably writes enough speeding tickets alone to cover his/her salary each year.

1 I've wondered this myself. Why do they make cars that say they can go 120-plus when doing so is unsafe and even illegal? And they are advertised doing this (going very fast) and being able to stop on a dime.

How irresponsible can advertising get? .

2 Driving fast isn't the danger. It is those who do not know HOW to drive while driving fast that are the danger. I am currently living in Germany and regularly drive at speeds that any cop in the US would consider over "high speed chase" limits and it is legal.

There are much less accidents on the autobahn than there are on the interstates in the US. It could be that Germans are not allowed to drive until 18 and only after they have taken a 2 month long driving school. I am going to have such a hard time when I do come back home.

Driving 55 or 65 mph on the highway seems like a Sunday drive with Grandma when you are allowed to..and expected to drive, 85 to 110 mph. Slow vehicles are not allowed on the autobahn and you will get a ticket if you drive below 55 mph.

My understanding (from TV, not experience) is that the autobahn was built specifically for speed and there aren't many on-ramps and no intersections etc which interfere with good driving. I wish here that they would enforce the "slower cars stay right". Those people toolin' along in the left lane cause more accidents and problems on the interstates around here than people going too fast.

4 I totally agree! I also do not like how all the sleek and sexy cars are sports cars! I have often said they should make a Ferrari like vehicle that can only go 75 at max so that you can have a sexy car and not have the outrageous insurance costs!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
