The committee has spent hundreds of hours over the years to put on spectacular reunions in 1984 and 1994. We have been puzzled why everyone we have located did not come to the events. Believe it or not, we think that we want to be remembered as we were not possibly as we are today.
We are all vain and prefer to be remembered as tall, skinny and with a full head of hair. Now we are heavier, have less hair and it is probably gray (unless we color it). In Dale "No Hair" Fukudas (S64) case, he is still trying to find it.
I think he lost it all about 35 years ago. It seems strange to have to check in with the past. Why open that musty old locker full of old memories?
Because nostalgia is as American as mobility. The two are connected: we couldnt be so sentimental about the past if we were more in touch with it. Reunions have become a convenient way to re-connect.
So be there or be square. Many grads think that those who go to reunions do so because they have remained in touch with each ...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
