He doesn't have the power to outright ban anything on his own. He can sign into law or veto legislation that Congress sends to him, he can reinstate the global gag rule (a.k.a. Mexico City policy) in regards to abortion overseas, he can change the composition of the Supreme Court so that it might overturn Roe v.
Wade if the issue came before them again, etc.. In terms of Presidential powers regarding abortion, see here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra... Similarly, the President's powers over gay marriage extend to enforcement- for example, Obama has declined to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, which denies federal recognition and federal benefits to same sex couples married under state law. Hope that helps. EDIT: @Paul: "And all people have to do is look at the last 30 years -- 18 of them have had a pro-life pro-family Republican in the White House.
Furthermore, those past presidents were more committed to the social issues than Romney, and yet they did NOTHING on the federal level to ban these practices." Um . .
. Did you forget about this piece of federal legislation? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partial-Bir... EDIT: @Durbin13: "He's never proposed to do either." "The actions I'll take immediately are to remove funding for Planned Parenthood.
It will not be part of my budget," Romney said. "And also I've indicated I'll reverse the Mexico City position of the president. I will reinstate the Mexico City policy." "Gov.
Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life," spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. Romney said he would appoint Supreme Court justices he hoped would overturn Roe vs. Wade, the decision legalizing abortion, and said in a 2007 debate that if Congress passed an abortion ban, "I'd be delighted to sign that bill." No, he is not ever going to be president. No president has that power as our government is a system of checks and balances. The Supreme Court is the final word and the SC voted that abortion is a private matter between a woman and her doctor.
Gay marriage has not come before the SC and Congress seems content to leave the issue to the individual states.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
