Why was Cleopatra exiled in 48 BCE?

Cleopatra was exiled in 48 BC because she tried to usurp power from her brother, who the Alexandrians preferred as their ruler. Her brother, backed by most of the Alexandrians, fought back and Cleo had to flee for her life.
