Why won't our three year old dogs mate? The female always encourages our male, but it's like he doesn't know what to do?

We've had them both since they were a year old, and since then, she's gone into heat numerous times. Each time, he showed varying interest, ranging from not caring at all to *trying* to do the act, but failing. He'd try mounting her side or her head or just kind of pelvic thrusting in her general direction.

My parents are only wanting one litter from them and then both are getting fixed, but I'm starting to think it's never going to happen. Asked by Miss_Kat 1 month ago Similar questions: year dogs mate female encourages male Pets > Dogs.

Maybe it's best to see a vet. Meanwhile here are several websites on this webpage where you can check the information:ehow.com/search.html?s=information+on+ho... html? S=information+on+how+to+breed+dogs&skin=corporate&t=all.

This is common in dogs that are together every day --to put it simply he doesn't see her as a mate -- he is used to being around her every day as a playmate/ friend so he is not interested in her as a mate --- sometimes if you seperate them on her first day of bleeding and keep them apart until she comes into heat -- about 7 -10 days -- this is enough to get him to breed --- if your male has never bred a female before you should try to find another female that has experience to make his job easier --- finally always bring the female to the males home or to a neutral site --- never take the male to the females home ground --- she will want to be dominant in her home area and often won't stand --- if they have'nt had puppies by age 5 I would give up and go ahead and neuter them -- if it hasn't happened by then it most likely won't and the health risks go up each year they are intact .

Thank you very much for this. It's helped greatly! We'll try separating them the next time she's in heat and go from there.

Also, and I know this is going to sound gross, but if you let him watch other dogs do it it might help .

" "Who let the dogs out?" "My male dog is trying to mate with the female, but all she wants to do is play. Will he always try to mate with her. " "do female dogs stop eating during there heat" "Do dogs have more pups if they mate more than once?c.

Do female dogs stop eating during there heat.

Do dogs have more pups if they mate more than once?c.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
