Speaking as an independent voter that usually bends Democrat, taxes are a constant. They'll be higher or lower, depending on who's in power, but they'll always be there. You can't get rid of taxes. So while I personally think higher taxes are a good thing (and no, I don't make a lot of money), that's about 1% of the reason why I vote for one candidate over the other.
There are many other issues that I consider more important than taxes (like human rights, the war in Iraq, the economy, international affairs, our planet), and that's what I vote on. Just as I don't generalize "you Republicans," you shouldn't generalize "us Democrats." Not everyone thinks the same way.
The people that vote for left wing political parties are usually the people who are either to poor and have no taxable income (or don't declare it) or have a lot of money at which point they start thinking what could they do with them...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
