A few possibilities... First solution that anyone should try when something odd happens (especially if the person uses some version of Windows on the computer in question) is reboot. 99% of the time that will fix the problem. The reason being that most often Windows allows something to walk on something else in memory and then both become unhappy.

Rebooting clears the RAM and allows everything to play nicely together again. After that, come the more technical solutions. Do you have Automatic Updates set up to automatically download and install updates for your computer?

If so, then Microsoft may have updated the driver for your wireless adapter and, thus, put on something that doesn't work quite right for your configuration. Roll back the driver to a previous version. You can do that by going to Device Manager, finding your adapter under Network Adapters, double-clicking on said adapter, and selecting the Driver tab.

On there, you will find a button that says "Roll Back Driver. " Click on that and it will take it back to an earlier version of driver that was installed on your machine (such as the one that you originally installed when you first used the adapter). If that doesn't solve the problem, then delete the device from Device Manager, disconnect the adapter from the computer, and reboot.

I would suggest a full Shut Down rather than Restart just to make sure that everything is cleared out of memory. Leave the computer off for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on. At that point, reinstall the driver from the original CD and attach the adapter when the installation program tells you to do so.

Then all you have to do is reconfigure it to see your wireless network (such as putting in any WEP/WPA/WPA2 encryption code that you might have set up) and away you should go. Finally, if that doesn't work, get another wireless adapter (ideally the same type that is in that computer) and see if you can establish a connection to your network with it. (If you have no other available wireless adapter but you have a standard Ethernet port on your computer that is available and enabled, try hooking up an Ethernet cable between your computer and router for this test.) If so, then you have a bad wireless adapter.

If not, then there is something else amiss. At that point, it would be best to call in a professional to resolve the issue. It could be a multitude of problems from the simple problem of 802.1x authentication is enabled to the more problematic TCP/IP protocol stack being corrupted or virus/malware infections getting in the way to the most troublesome software firewall has gone haywire and needs to be fixed or removed. A professional computer technician would be able to discover which of these (or other) possibilities would be able to resolve it for you and get you back online.

It is hard to diagnose these types of problems from afar but if I can give you any further assistance, let me know. I'm glad to help as much as I can. Sources: 20 Years of Professional Experience and Daily Interaction with Clients .
