Will Obama's plan to raise taxes on the rich increase the percentage of income taxes they pay?

You will need a tax accountant for this. Here is my take on this BUT I must add that I am NOT a lawyer or tax accountant and I DO NOT play one on TV, any actions taken you are on your own. OK that out of the way, you have 2 problems as I see it; 1 where you are living and 2 where you are getting paid.

Under the income tax act being that you live (will be living) in Quebec that is your place of residence and you must pay your taxes there. HOWEVER because your company is located in Ontario the taxes will be taken off your pay cheque at the Ontario rates {unless they have a Quebec branch} (which I understand are less BUT there is an Ontario surtax for health care). Quebec has its own income tax scheme whereas Ontario is coupled in with the Federal one.

Many people who live along the boarder live in one province and work in the other so it really isn't a big deal for tax preparers especially those in Ottawa. A buddy of mine has a house in Quebec but is working right now in the arctic where he will be claiming his place of residence for tax purposes, but his normal place of work is in Ontario Which brings me to your other question. Ottawa is a nice city, reasonable public transit better than Montreal's.

Being still a government town I would expect the rents to be a little higher in Ottawa than Montreal BUT you have to shop around. Nice thing about Ottawa is that it is close to Montreal and if there are any concerts that play in Montreal it is just a drive down the 417. There also is Kingston Ontario half way between TO & MTL on the 401you might wish to consider.

Lastly there is the unasked question, FRENCH. You move to Quebec EVERYTHING you get from the Quebec government will be in French and you will have to ask for it in English. Also being that you are not a Canadian citizen and have not been educated anywhere in Canada in English you do not have the right to have any children educated in English in Quebec.

Good luck, welcome to Canada if no one has said it and Happy Christmas if it is within your keeping.

I would suggest that you pay tax where you live. When you file a return if you live in quebec then you will have to file there. Contact rev Canada to be 100%.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
