David Palandro, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute scientist in St. Petersburg says "There's oil moving in the gulf of Mexico, and that is enough for us to mobilize" Florida authorities remain unsure about the chances but are ready to do what they can to protect the wildlife, seafood industry, and tourism industry along the states gulf coast in case of the oil spill nearing and making landfall on Florida's beaches, coastline, and marine eco-systems On the approaching oil spill Adm. Thad Allen of the United States Coast Guard says when asked about the chances the oil spill would reach Florida ``I'm not going to rule anything out, but it's pretty remote'' Winds and the Gulf's powerful "loop current" could bring the oil spill just about anywhere throughout the Gulf of Mexico and all nations and states should be prepared if they border the Gulf. A hurricane will add to the uncertainty of the spills shoreline coverage but the Gulf of Mexico's hurricane season does not begin until late in summer.
The clean up may take years or it may take months but either way the likelihood of this years hurricane season arriving and the oil still being in the gulf remains high. Photo:
NY Times| Chris Graythen | Getty Images.Northwest Florida is now under a State of Emergency in the coastal counties. They are expecting the oil to reach the shores by Monday. ''Destin Log'' has photos from the rig and oil area thedestinlog.emeraldcoastphotoswest.com/... here Gulf Power is offering to help with the emergency and has floating booms they can provide to help.
The NOAA image shows when the impact should reach other areas beside the ones being impacted today. NOAA's image won't embed for me, you can see it
here The other images are from Navarre Beach which is between Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach and is a beautiful area. The fishing and tourism industry will be suffering from this for a while. The impact could be months and months and it is possible if a hurricane goes through where the rig is it may even do more damage to it.
I believe that Florida is doing all they can to protect the area where the oil spill could get too. I really think that the area is in for some major effects of this spill and I believe that someone needs to look at the ecological effects this will have on the area.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
