Will unemployment exceed 7%? Do you know someone who has been laid off? Blue collar/white collar?

Unfortunately I have been through many layoffs...fortunately I am still employed The company I work for laid off ~8% of our work force yesterday...yuck...~280 people...of course I knew more than a few of them. White collar...telecommunications industry. I have been through ~15 or so layoffs in the past 8 years. At the company I work for we had a high point of nearly 10,000 employees...right now we are down to ~3300.

So I have witnessed a lot of layoffs and a lot of close friends lose their jobs. It is a very rotten atmosphere to work in not knowing if you will have a job tomorrow. You always need to be on guard not to get on someones bad side or make enemies.

The best attitude to have is to get a bit numb to it and you just do your job the best you can and what happens happens...though it still does not make it much easier when you know layoffs are coming. The worst was a huge layoff I went through in 2002. Everyone at the company got a prerecorded phone call in the evening to show up at one of two locations.

One location everyone was laid off the others still had a job. So of course when the phone call came you did not really know which group you were in so you ended up calling everyone you knew at work to find out where they were sent.So you called the most brilliant person you knew and hoped you were going to the same location as them or you called the worst and prayed you were not going to the same location. It is not a good time to be jobless.

I think it is likely unemployment will exceed 7%. I am sure it already has in some states. If I had it to do over I would pick an industry that was recession proof...some sort of essential service industry.

Engineering and technology is definitely not the right choice...while it is sort of essential...many of these jobs are now getting shipped overseas where there is educated "skilled" cheap labor. In my opinion and from my experience the product/work produced out of countries like India and China is often substandard. Companies jump at the cheap labor but often suffer because of the inferior quality products produced. Hopefully at some point there will be a backlash and companies will start realizing that while they may save money up front it will cost them in the long run and they will bring the jobs back here.It really helps when the american public stops supporting or complains to these companies about inferior service.

No one likes calling customer service and talking to someone who barely can speak the english language and really has no skill other than following a script. Everything today is about cutting costs...shareholder value...doing more with less. A lot of it stems from the greed on Wall Street.

They have screwed up this economy in more ways than just writing bad loans.

Teachers in Dallas are being laid off. It's unusual for teachers to lose their jobs during the middle of the year unless they are accused of something pretty bad. This year, Dallas teachers are being fired simply because there's not enough money to pay them..

Might reach upto 8% I do see a lot of potential lay offs in near future.. most companies have already stated cost cutting in a lot of areas. And resuts of another quarter might result in some serious layoffs. There are a number of companies which were about to lay off in this qurter itself but have postponed it for the time being.. the majority of that being white collar jobs.. a simple equation 1 white collar emp salary = 5-10 blue collar salary so you decide for your self who is at risk Thanks Akash Start Blogging for Money Work From Home Jobs Genuine Data Entry Jobs Genuine Surveys Free Writing Jobs .

2 Unemployment in Ohio, in August of this year, was 7.4 %. It went down a hair in Sept. - to 7.2%.

I personally do not know anyone who was laid off, but a lot of my clients have gone out of business totally, or have closed remote offices and gone into one - laying off people along the way.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
