With a majority in congress and senate, why so many broken promises?

Is because the majority of Congress isn't listening to what the President said. Yes the Democrats have the majority of votes in Congress and can pass anything with out the help of the republicans. These Congress men have a mind of there own, and all don't agree with what the President wants, like Health Care for a example.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid either went against Obama's wishes for a open Government, or Obama only made the promise to get elected. As we have all seen, they went behind closed doors were people could not see what was going on or what pay offs were done to get a yes vote.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
