I did not and would not feel embarassed breast feeding in public. My breast-feeding experiences go back a long way. Breast feeding is the most normal, natural way to feed babies.
Humans are the only species that has issues about whether to breast feed their babies or not. The best milk for my babies was mine. Unfortunately, about 35 years ago, when I was breast feeding, it was not very widely accepted.
There weren't many places to go for seclusion; so, I wore bras and shirts that required minimal work to expose a breast. I would find a bench that wasn't widely used. Then I draped a blanket over my shoulder and the side of my body I was going to feed on.
Then I slipped the baby under the blanket, sat back and watched the world go by. I got so good that many times people were totally unaware of what I was doing. If what I was doing was offensive to anyone, they always had the option to look elsewhere.
Unfortunately I did feel embarassed breast feeding in public. I found it hard just doing it in front of some family members. I think this is down to me thinking that they will be embarassed and therefore in turn I hid away to avoid the situation.
For any new mum breast feeding, I would suggest that they do there homework before they go out in public, so that they know where the best places to go are. A lot of big stores have proper feeding areas so that you can breast feed on your own in peace and quiet. However saying all this, you should not be put of breast feeding in public just because of other people.
Remember it is a natural way to feed your baby, even if it doesn't come naturally at first. Most of the embarassment felt comes from on lookers, so give it a go, you don't know how you will feel until you do it.
Breast feeding by a mother to her child does not need a particular place. If a child is hungry and crying you will have to feed him irrespective of the reason that you are not at a convenient place but while feeding you should cover the breast area with a light duppatta or stole with a view to save yourself from peoples' barb.
I wanted to but unfortunatly I did feel to embarrassed to breast feed in public. I felt like it was offensive to people. I don't believe that it should be and I think that it is a very natural and positive thing to do and for other children to see.
I felt shamed that I wasn't strong enough to do it for my child. I would usually just pump enough for public feedings from a bottle. It's a bummer that our sociaty isn't more accepting of Breast feeding.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
