Before attending a tea party, we are all told on no uncertain terms the "rules". No fighting, no littering, no violence, peaceful and never let a single thing be said about us being disruptive and breaking the law. I wouldn't have gone to a tea party if I felt unsafe.
Truth be told, the first tea party I attended, I was scared I could get hurt. I tried to assess what I could do to protect myself. I'm not a gun owner (please remember not all tea party members are gun owners, I've never even held one in my hand) so I decided on a clever sign approach.
My sign was taped to my broomstick and it read "Sweep Washington Clean of Tax Cheats and Dishonest Politicians". I felt my broom could be used if things got violent and I had to defend myself and get out of there quickly. Never needed it, never happened.
By the time I got there, I realized what a wonderful group this was of good, honest, Americans from all walks of life. No one said or did a single thing that made me feel unsafe. I am a woman in my 50s who has never been to any protest of any kind in my life.
Isn't it ironic, if you think back, that many of the peace marches and protests of the 1960s resulted in violence. So here were people trying to promote peace and they got crazy violent themselves. Pretty weird.
At any rate, the Wall St. protest this weekend got wild and violent. I do not profess to knowing why. Is it liberals?
Is it a personality type? Not sure. I do find it interesting that it took something like $21,000 to clean up DC after Obama's inauguration due to the littering and mess created.
Rumors told me it was more like a million and I do not know the number for sure. But, after each tea party, we all picked up and left the places we were at cleaner than before as this group would NEVER cost our taxpayers money. We also are asked to bring canned/non perishable food to donate to food pantries at each meeting we attend.
Tells you something about our generous nature as well. We just don't think our government should be the charity, it should be by choice.
The occupy wall street people. Why? Because they have nothing to lose.
No jobs, no home, no family, no hope. What do you think will happen when young people get into that position? You think they are going to just quietly wait for the corporate overlords to toss them a few crumbs?
Anyone with a brain can see this is only the beginning of a true revolution. @ the pro tea party people... yes there has been violence... although rare I do remember an older woman attacking a Jewish man at one of them (youtube) and no they do NOT clean up after themselves... they have been letting the cities do their clean up... but it IS a part of the permit fees. I will agree that the tea party folks are better behaved... but let's not place them on a pedestal either.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
