Would you report someone for sexual harassment, if the person who was being harassed didn't?

Since it didn't happen to you you reporting it wouldn't be classified as harassment. Check with your HR department handbook to see if there's anything you can do and what the procedure is to make sure it's even worth your effort. If you were to capture an incident from start to finish on video however, then it's practically open and shut.

BUT if there are rules against recording devices in the workplace you could also be charged. Bottom line is, choose your battles wisely. Consult an attorney and make sure you are blameless or you'll find yourself under a magnifying glass too.

Laws protect the guilty, not the victim or the innocent.

I would tell HR what I had seen or heard. I would not state that it was harassment, unless I knew for sure that it was unwelcome, but if you're aware of it, and it's making you uncomfortable, then it does not belong in the work place. If the victim was really insistent that nothing was going on, then the investigation would be over.

You, however, would be protected, because you had reported it. You don't want to be accused of helping the harasser get away with it. You can always say that you did the right thing, then you washed your hands of it.

It's hard to report sexual harassment that happen to someone else if that victim does not want to pursue this matter herself. Maybe I would report to my boss if the perpetrator is my co-worker. It depends on the situation and how bad the sexual harassment is.

If I know the victim will never say anything even if my boss ask her about it, then reporting it will only make me look like a fool. I definitely won't go the police here because they won't accept my report if I am not the victim, and most of the time not even then.

I would just go over and tell the person to stop the B.S. Or I'll call your wife, girlfriend, mother, etc.. If the person was my Boss I'd have to let him know that it wouldn't be a good idea to fire me also.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
