You are stranded for weeks on a life raft without food or freshwater; your friend just died, would you resort to cannibalism to survive?

I think this is one of the question that we will never know the answer until we are faced with the situation. I've never felt hunger to the point of madness that I'd eaten anything. Actually, I am kind of agree with a saying that it's better not to eat than to eat anything, but again, I have never been faced with this situation and I cannot know for sure what my reaction will be.

I hear, actually, that consuming human flesh is supposed to be unhealthy for humans. And especially since we're on a raft, there wouldn't be any way to cook the meat - so I'd not only be eating questionable meat, but raw meat to boot. I'd probably try some fish first, since sushi is manageable.

Maybe I could use bits of my friend as fishing bait! (Wow, what a morbid situation lol! ).

It is possible to eat human flesh however certain areas need to be avoided to avoid the negative affects mentioned. (It's odd I know that *looks for a source*) scienceline.org/2008/01/21/ask-stern-can... askville.amazon.com/SimilarQuestions.do?... States to avoid the brain, bone marrow and spinal cord. I have heard to avoid the lymphatic system altogether go for strictly meaty portions such as the tighs that contain little more than muscle.

You could use the rest to go fishing as suggested. That being said, sure I'd eat people. I eat animals, people are animals.

The friend is dead.. wouldn't he/she want me to live?

Yes I would and I think anybody in that situation would personally. It's amazing what a human being will do to stay alive. I wouldn't want to have to resort to that but if I had to.

Yeah, I think I've heard that cannibalism causes something similar to mad cow disease. Nevertheless, if I'm starving and stranded on a raft, there's a good chance, depending upon how long I'm adrift, that I will eat anything...including the raft. You just really can't say what you won't do in a situation like that.

I don't know if the moral issue is that it's my friend, or that it's cannibalism. Either way I hope I'm not ever in a situation where I'd have to make a decision like that.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
