35 yr old, physically fit male with a dull ache in upper abdomen that worsens when prone. Had for more than a years time There are no other symptoms, and no prior medical complications. All the blood work comes back clear, and will be getting an abdominal ultrasound next week.

Had extensive heart and lung test, all clear. Just wondering at possible causes for this persistant pain I am experiencing. Asked by jbalba 7 months ago Similar questions: 35 yr physically fit male dull ache upper abdomen worsens prone years time Health > Conditions & Diseases.

Keep a food diary, write down anything and everything you eat and drink for the week take it to your doctor, it may help him diagnose you.

Thank you for your suggestion on keeping a food diary, and the possibility of gall stones. Lately instead of the pain just being present when lying down, it is noticeable after the evening meal. The pain is intermitent, and has been so for more than a year.

I would have thought gall stones would be more acute. I will look into that further as a possibility though. Thank you for your time, and helpful suggestion!

I had gall stones, the pain would come and go, a lot worse when I laid down, and centered just below the liver and to the center of upper abdomen. The pain comes when a stone blocks the bile duct,so you can have stones and not have symptoms all the time, just when they get stuck in the duct then OUCH! I had my gall bladder removed, these days its a simple procedure, I went into the hospital in the morning and was home by noon.

I am pleased to hear you were relieved of your pain! I am hopeful this will turn out to be the same sort of thing. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience.

I am trying to start a new job in a different country, and now this! Jbalba 7 months ago .

You're welcome, and good luck with the new job Let me know how things turn out at the doctors, if you remember.

To '' SHASHA'' whom was kind enough to take the time to send two private messages. Thank you so much for the information you have sent. If the ultrasound shows nothing this Thursday, I will be pursueing the possibility of Celiac.

I wish you the best of luck with the medical challenges you have endured with the onset of Celiac. Your kindness means more than I can say. This is an incredibly difficult time just now.( I could not figure out how to send you a private message to reply, so I posted this way.) jbalba 7 months ago .

Sorry..reality check..... dull ache indicate something is wrong so you better go to the doctor. Maybe your physical fitness program is impacting on some muscles/nerves/tendons etc. If something hurts, your body is asking to please address the problem.

Thank you for you reply; any information to shed light is my goal. I have added additional information to my original question stating I have been through various tests, and will be getting an abdominal ultrasound next week. I was curious if anyone had information on what the doctor may specifically be looking for.

Thank you for your time none the less! Jbalba 7 months ago .

A cracked rib not healed properly can be a problem. Hubby has been kicked around in his Karate class so we had some aches and pains to deal with. Did you get an X-ray?

Yes, the -ray showed nothing. Have had an E.K.G. , stress test, blood pressure monitor attached for 48 hours, lung capacity tests, as well as three rounds of blood work. Nothing has been an indicator to anything.

Getting nervous for the ultrasound now, and was hopeful someone may read this with similiar experience. Thank you for your concern and time! I am slightly worried it may not be as uncomplicated as an old injury.

Sometimes people have habits that can cause a muscle cramp and since you are physically fit I can assume you run or exercise often. It may be that you aggravate this issue yourself. I developed a problem with my left shoulder, feeling it thight and with a shorter range of movement. As usual, anything to do with pain, I got to my chiropractor.

After few weeks adjustments that were not working we came to the conclusion that the change in my life, taking care of my chunky baby grandson that requires to much lifting for this old person was causing it. Now that I am aware of it it's much better. When my kids were young I had a hip pain that was caused by carrying the kids on my side sitting on my hip.

It took awhile to find out. Is your mattress a good mattress? Do you have a good supporting pillow?

Is you computer chair good for sitting a long time? Analyze every step of the day and the items that come in contact with your body. Can it be acid reflux?

Maybe you have to sleep with your head higher than the rest of the body. Make sure not to eat just before bed. Let us know if you find out.

Good luck.

And Shasha thinks everyone's problem is Celiac - so, not likely if you're not having any other GI symptoms. But it's a GOOD thing the heart & lung tests came back clear. It could be something as random as costochondritis, which is an inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs and connecting the ribs to the breastbone.

Or it could be gallbladder dysfunction (right to middle upper abdomen), pancreatic issues (left upper abdomen - although your pancreatic enzymes would probably be "off") But, unfortunately, since there are so many organs and functions going on within the abdomen, it can be difficult to pinpoint. This is just to say what you're going through is not unusual. Htm.

Say, your bowels (transverse colon) is full and distended from chronic constipation, that is going to push the stomach & liver up slightly, causing discomfort. Not to mention how many blood vessels that run through the abdomen.... I'd be curious to hear what they find on the ultrasound. Take care,Alissa, RN .

Thank you for taking the time to give your informed advice Alissa! I am very grateful for any insight into what may be going on. I agree that if it were something with the pancreas, the numbers would be askew. It is hard to disern what may be happening as there are no other symptoms at all.

I am having the ultrasound this Thursday, so I suspect it will be some time after that when I get an answer. I will post once I have the diagnosis. Again, thank you for your kindness!
