A point for every 20 page views - why does this STILL not work?

Sorry to hear about your frustration on this one, we don't mean be false advertising, the fact of the matter is that that particular feature slowed down the site and caused more technical problems then solutions. As far as I know it's been turned off and I've been told it's likely not coming back. I remember this coming up a long time ago in the past and I tried to get the "mahalo.com/answers/points_guidelines point guidelines" page fixed.

The problem I encountered with that is the page actually isn't a "Mahalo Page" - It's an image, and apparently it is so complicated to fix that they won't even allow me to go in and remove the old guidelines, it has to be done internally by one of the technicians. What it comes down to is a bad idea from a long time ago still haunting us today. I'll talk to the devs again, but I don't think we'll see that error removed until we get an entirely new "points guideline" page.

Whenever I refer people to anything to do with points I send them to the Mahalo Belts page, which as all the relevant information on the topic. Again I apologize for the confusion and thank you for your patience. Don't let this small setback slow you down, you can earn points 10x faster by contributing in other says such as Answering questions and voting on Undecided Questions.

That is just one of the many signs on the site that point to the staff being more worried about crap like Conundrum instead of Mahalo, even though I would think the focus should really be on the site that all of us actually joined in the first place....

I don't think that's been working for me for about a month, month and a half now...heck I totally forgot about it. But yeah, its something that should be fixed, though it's likely not high on the "To do" list with all the other bugs, Conundrum, etc, etc.

This is just speculation, but I would expect that they'll be counting all page views from the same IP address with a certain period of time as one view, obviously it's not as simple as this as a lot of people share IP addresses, there will probably be cookies involved as well. This will stop people artificially inflating their view counts by repeatedly refreshing the page from a single computer. I don't know how long the time period would be - it may in fact be effectively forever so if you went back and viewed the page again in a year's time it still wouldn't count it as an extra view.

It's important that Google get this number to reflect (as far as possible) the actual number of people who've actually seen the page as they are selling advertising based on the page views. The more page views the higher rates they can charge. Anyone running a site that has advertising has the same problem to solve and a lot of time and effort goes into getting these numbers as accurate as possible.

They won't publicise the exact algorithms they use as this will allow people to game the system and artificially inflate the viewing figures.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
