Any idea who I can contact about repairing or replacing my driveway bridge?

My bridge was built in 1976 and is now needing some timbers replaced. I was thinking of making it a drawbridge or covered bridge. Pic:

Answer from a home builder since 1971. Not enough informaiton provided like where do you live? Try angieslist.com for local contractors that have been used by your neighbors... Also, you will find some on craigslist.com...I have built home owner bridges in Georgia...Rules for getting it done...1.

Never ever give them any money up front...Often they take the money and split...A reputable contractor has charge accounts and good credit to secure materials..If he does not get paid, then he takes out a lien against the home which keeps you from selling it until he is paid for the material and work done... And he can drag you into small claims court since he knows where you live...You give him money, you don't know where he lives, you don't see money anymore...2. Get as much in writing as possible...Something I always hated doing since I am old school and a man's word was his contract...Well, I said one thing, the home owner heard another...I keep at least a personal pocket recorder going, if not a cam-corder of the conservations about the job...Then a written contract need not be made as this will serve you both in court...3.Do not pay until you are satsified with the job, the terms of the contract / conservations have been met / the judge tells you to pay...Again, back to the reputable contractor can wait on the money because his credit is good at the store and his business is in good enough shape to pay sub-contractors... Know that quality is vague, different things to different people. That is why commerical contracts will spell out how many pin size holes there can be in finished sheetrock within 3 sq ft in any section of the wall, and the exact thickness of paint surfaces.

So what you want, what he did, and what a judge will accept are four different things...4. Ask that all workmen, his or subs, have workmans comp insurance..If they are injuried on the job, your home, then they may in some cases / states have recourse in taking you to court...5. Ask to see his libility insurance providers documentations / or a phone number you can call...Again, if he screws something up at your home, he may not have the money to fix it...He is to be given the chance to make repairs, before you can take him to court...And, if it was old and termite spit was all that was holding it up, he touched it, it fell down, does not mean he knocked it down...2 different things...Know this, I tell people they can have two of three things, one is a cheap price, one is quality materials, one is quality workmanship...You can't have all three, you can only have one or two... Let Amazon know if this was a great or lame answer and vote.

Question on replacing my driveway expansion joint wood.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
