Any recommendations on the closest Lake Michigan shoreline/beach from Lansing?

From Lansing you have 3 options that are almost the same driving time (1.5 hours). Grand Haven, Holland and Saugatuck. Grand Haven: is about a 1.5 hour drive from Lansing.

Grand Haven has a great board walk and down town area. The walk from the State Park (where the beach is) to down town is about a 15-min walk. Grand Haven has a very nice beach.

The down town area offers many restaurants from the "beach burrito" to outside fine dining. My recommendation is to pick up a couple of Pronto Pups and sit on the hillside looking over the channel and watch the boats go by. Holland: It's roughly the same distance 1.5 hours from Lansing.

Holland has a great beach too. They also have a down town but it's more of a hike from the State Park. Plus, the walk is not along the water.

Saugatuck: Again it's about 1.5 hours from Lansing. This is completely different compared to Grand Haven and Holland. The down town area runs along the river.

Lots of B&B's restaurants, shops, art galleries. You could spend an entire day downtown just wandering around. To get to the beach you have to drive out of town just a bit (see this link: http://www.saugatuck.com/maps/ovalbeach_frame.htm).

It's a little bit of a hike through the woods to the beach but it's really pretty. This beach is usually not as crowded as Holland and Grand haven due to it's location. Don't forget to pack some food/drink.

All of these beaches are nice but if I had to choose I would say Grand Haven. I think GH gives you the best of everything (beach and down town experience). Try all 3 this summer.

If you do that I'd get a State Park Pass that way you can get into all the parks. Good Luck and don't forget the sun screen.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
