If it indeed, a strep bacteria, you will need antibiotics to get better. The doctor can usually run the test in his office while you wait.

Mayo clinic website:"It's important to identify strep throat for a number of reasons. If untreated, strep throat can sometimes cause complications such as kidney inflammation and rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever can lead to painful and inflamed joints, a rash and even damage to heart valves."They explain what strep is as opposed to a scratchy throat:mayoclinic.com/health/strep-throat/DS00260 com/health/strep-throat/DS00260.

You're welcome. My parents were told that my tonsils had to come out during the early 60's but they didn't act on the doctor's advice. Like Skylight, I suffered from repeated bouts of verified strep throat associated with very high fevers.

I was always on antibiotics. It interfered with my education and my job and I ended up allergic to penicillin and all related antibiotics due to overuse. I ended up in the hospital for two weeks because of complications from strep throat. It caused a serious kidney infection and a temp so high I was put in an ice bath to bring it down.

It almost killed me. I was told I had mild liver damage at the time but apparently the liver heals. I spent my teens like this until I was married and my new doctor told us the same thing, only he was more emphatic.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 21 and literally never had a sore throat again for at least 30 or more years. Never had strep infection again to date. This is serious stuff.

You break a bone or get a strep infection you see a traditional doctor - forget the herbs and alternatives. Pray if it makes you feel good but take the medication at the same time.

And vinegar is ascetic acid - a very mild acid. It doesn't kill viruses. Nothing wrong with good preventive medicine like vitamins, minerals, exercise and eating intelligently but a good healthy lifestyle doesn't make you immune to bubonic plague.

I used to get strep throat regularly as a child. At least once a month. Besides my throat being raw, poisons would drain into my stomach and I would have to vomit....always, no exceptions. As well, I always got a very high fever.

At least once a month I was driven to the doctor, and we had to stop so I could throw up on the way. Always the doctor saw small white bumps at the back of my throat. When I finally got my tonsils out, the doctor said they were the biggest tonsils he had ever seen.

I believe my tonsils were somehow creating the problems that led to my enduring battle with strep throat. One penicillin shot and it was like magic. Within hours I was feeling so much better.

My sister told me there will be a SHOCKINGLY FOUL ODOR associated with STREP, that wouldn't be there if it was just the beginning of a simple COLD, or something..Thank you for the information, SKYLIGHT..it was really helpful. May All seeya 15 months ago .

I always found that strep throats hurt UNTIL you swallow, while sore throats caused by viruses or allergies hurt WHEN you swallow.

Don't want to beat this STREP THROAT thing to death, but it occurs to me that within the last week all the KIDS are back in school..spreading germs to each other..Kids go home and spread even more to their parents and sitters..these germs are distributed all over every Grocery store, yoga Studio, Gas Pump nozzle and Mail box..Since everyone Ive come into contact with, within the last week, has mentioned feeling BLAAAHH.. come down with SOMETHING..I suppose there's just a whole Lotta germs infiltrating all our Worlds. For a minute there,I thought I actually had the MUMPS. Still the sore throat..feels like battery acid in my throat.

Head-achy..the whole nine. Ive been trying to WILL it away but so far no luck with that. Irritating, but Ill survive.

Thanks for all the EXTENSIVE input, everyone. I really appreciate it. May All seeya 15 months ago .

Take aspirin or tylenol to reduce the pain. Get Chloriseptic throat spray and spray your throat to kill the pain. Try to get rest.It sounds like it's more than just a viral infection, it might be bacterial, and you might need antibiotics.

Obviously, you will have to make the decision to go to the doctor or not.

Will do. Sage advise...DanZee,I was going to ask you something and now I cant remember what it is..AAAHHHH..now Ill have to delve into my Questions and Answers to remind myself what it was. That's really going to BUG ME til I think of it.

Ill be back. Thank you..May All seeya 15 months ago .

I took 2000mg of fish oil daily...it stopped my cold/flu for 20 years. Vit C, Vit D3, garlic/onion, zinc and more may help a person.

REALLY helpful..THANKS..Its the kind of thing where you've HEARD it for a long long time, but don't take the time to actually DO it..Im going to the store TODAY to get fish oil. Seems to me every time I catch a little cold, or anything else comes my way..it'll almost knock me down. WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEM, I suppose. It worries me.

In the past, colds and flus would hit EVERYBODY ELSE..Id stay immune. THATs what STRESS'LL do to you! Thanks. May All seeya 15 months ago .

I found out the hard way the difference between those: I drink vinegar any time I acquire a cold virus, and one time, I had a sore throat, so I was drinking the vinegar (1-2 tablespoons, 2-4 times a day) for a week before I realized this was going too long. One visit to the doctor and find out it wasn't a cold. Vinegar kills viruses; it doesn't work as well on bacteria (tho it had attenuated the severity of the illness.) .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
