Are celebrities doing enough to inspire environmental activism?

They are not the holders of the planetary destiny :)Matter of fact, I distrust any causes promoted by celebrities as self interest most of the time, but even if it isn't so, those charities are better off 2 or 20 mill than the rest, so I'd look elsewhere to put my charity money on. Now, seriously, you really think that those dudes at Hollywood need to lead the rest of us? Are they really any kind of example?

Do they have anything to do with the rest of the world? Is their way of life any similar to ours? So then why do we feel at all that they must lead at anything we do?

I don't think celebrities are doing enough at all. They certainly have the ability to make a difference, but most are too busy drinking tigers blood and rambling on camera to do anything. They are the roles models (unfortuneatly) for a lot of people.

Buffoon - For the most part I happen to agree with you. However, it is unfortunate that we live in a celebrity obsessed society, where these people have become roll models no matter how poorly they behave. On CNN.Com each morning more often than not the newspulse chart usually shows that celebrity stories out rank pretty much anything else in popularity.

So on some level I feel that our "taste makers" should take some responsibility for leading the way. Their lives are not similar to ours, but a very large percentage of the world strives to live their lives as best they can to emulate them - ie. Celebrities hawking beauty products that then everybody buys.

Many are getting more socially conscious and that is great but but I think more should be done in the area of being a role model when it comes to going green.

They are doing plenty. Some people simply don't care about being green, myself included. Yes, we should have perified tap water, use objects over again, and keep toxins away from water and the earth.

But I don't need to hear it from people I see in movies every week. If I want to hear from them, I'll watch one of their films. Sadly, I know they won't shut up soon.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
