Are we too afraid to offend the Catholics and therefor refrain from condemning the Pope and the Church for their horrendous behavior?

I rarely have a problem calling someone out. In my opinion, the Catholic church is so hypocritical. I'm disgusted with how they've handled this.

Not that I was a religious person prior, but this only reinforces my agitation with organized religion and what it stands for. If the church truly operated as they claim to, then this wouldn't have happened. Think about it like this.

The commanding officer of a troop is responsible for everyone in their command. Parents are responsible for their children's actions. So why not hold the Pope responsible?

Why are these people viewed as untouchable? Wrong!

Yes people should be more outspoken. But Money + Power = Nothing Will Come of It. If this was a small organization it would have been squashed long ago.

But it's too big and too powerful, too late. Imagine any faith where it's okay to do anything as long as you confess before you die (or have someone pray for you and pay for your forgiveness after you die), is it any wonder that these activities are being condoned? Oh and by the way, condone means do nothing to change the status quo.

Not just speak up about it. Too many things wrong with the whole picture to isolate a single thing that can fix it. But definitely speak up and don't vote for people who belong to a faith where the leader can control their conscience out of fear of "excommunication" and "eternal damnation"....as if any person on Earth has that power.

Fer serial.

I was actually raised Catholic and converted to Odinism when I got older... it's a religion full of hypocrisy and has been for well, pretty much since it was created. I think it's survived so long because people often turn a blind eye to the wrongs of main stream religion. Perhaps because once upon a time the faiths of a single god cemented a pretty solid fear of condemning the church.

The church had the power to do a hell of a lot more than send you to "hell". Nowadays I think it's time to open that blind eye, not just to Catholicism but all religion. How much bad does a religion have to do to outweigh the good?.

That's a good conundrum. Lol.

I think that if people were completely honest with themselves, they would realize that on some level they were vaguely aware of this type of abuse going on in the Catholic church all of their lives. Now that brave victims are finally coming forward, I believe that we all feel guilt that we brushed away thinking about this if it did not directly affect us. In my opinion, this guilt, not fear of giving offense, is keeping people from condemning the Pope.

In this day and age I don't think anyone is scared to speak out against the Church at least in the USA. I even hear some talk that due to the cover-ups of them being brought up on criminal chages by the Fed as an ongoing criminal enterprise. I think this is in all religions and all walks of life.

Look up Megans Law website and see how many sex offenders are hidden in your neighborhood. The truth is that gays and molestors were dealth with in such a severe way back in the day that the Church was a place to hide. But as you see today with more of an acceptance of gays the Church is running low on Priests.

But molestors will never be accepted. The Church has the money and resources to try to handle it within it's own organization. Don't jewish people do this within their own organizations.

And many other people within their own bylaws of their group. It is just the openess of the press today as to why you hear it. Just as back in the day Hollywood hid which of their leading men were gay.It is more a changing of time then a change of what has happened.

You know what everyone...what really pisses me off about this is that catholics have their own way of teachings. And if your not catholic then don't worry about it. Don't worry they won't make you join them.

And seriously do you think catholic churches are the only ones who have molested kids? Other religions could do the same thing....you know why? Because there are all sorts of homosexuals and heterosexuals that molest kids anyways and they don't have to go to church.

The ones that do are the ones who get the most shit because the fact that they are apart of the church...but plain and simple they are still the same molester on the street. Idk the pope is the pope, I'm not catholic, but man I don't really give a flying fuck because my kids won't be catholic unless they choose it, and I don't go to the church so let them get punished by the feds and let the church goers deal with it....everyone else shut up. I am so sick of hearing this stuff.. It's like what are you going to do?

Protest against the church go boycott it? I mean you don't go to it..so what are you going to do? The only way their going to get caught if doing something bad, is if someone speaks up and knows about it personally or knows someone who knows it personally... and you won't ever know because you aren't catholic and aren't going to the catholic church!

So please let them be hypocrital you won't do anything. And I hate how people just raaaannnnnttttt ommmgggg....

Who is this we you speak of . Is it a group of Nancy boys that want to be priests and boy scout leaders and swimming coaches. If we vetted these positions for homo tendencies among prospects most of this sort of stuff wouldn't happen .

Most of the molestations are from stone cold homos . The church hid some of these people because they to were probably molested by priests them selves . You can't hold the head of the church responsible for underlings wrongdoing .

Each case should be adjudicated as needs be.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
