Argh! Just cracked the LCD screen on my Sony CyberShot digital camera?

Argh! Just cracked the LCD screen on my Sony CyberShot digital camera. Anyone know how much it'll cost me to have the screen fixed, and where would be a good place to take it for service?

Be ready to shell out the LCD screen is one of the more pricy parts of your camera. I don't think you will find it price-worthy to have it fixed. If it is still within the warranty-period, you can try getting it fixed with Sony at a cheap(er) price, but don't count on it.

I am afraid you are either stuck with it, or will have to replace the entire camera. Positive side of that: cameras keep getting better and cheaper, so you will probably get it to be replaced with a much better verison, at the same price. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.... Sources: my opinion .

Since it fairly, new it's worth fixing, I think I doubt that the warranty would cover a cracked LCD but I would send it in to Sony anyway for repair and ask them to give you an estimate before they do anything. It might not be that expensive just to replace it. Http:eservice.sony.com/webrma/web/index.do will tell you where you can send it.

Good luck! .

Ouch! I can feel your pain! I just hope it wasn't too new or expensive.

This might be a good place to get started - Sony eservice - Repair and Service. Give them your model number, purchase date and zip code. Their base repair rate is probably going to be upward of $100.

And even if your camera is still under warranty I think you'll have a pretty hard time convincing them that a cracked LCD was a manufacturer defect or anything else that would be covered by warranty. I found this blog post about a guy with a similar problem. Phone camera though, not digital camera.

But I imagine the response would be similar too. There's also a post on the photo.net forums here with some quick and dirty advice to "fix" the problem yourself. Really quick, and really dirty, and more of a stop-gap solution than a fix.

But they also say the repairs will be costly and probably won't be covered by warranty. You could also try taking it back to the store you bought it at, although you probably bought it online so that'd be out too. One last bit of advice, when an old Nikon Coolpix of mine started misbehaving I called around a few of my local camera stores and although they didn't repair digital cameras themselves they were able to point me to someone who was able to.It was just one guy, no business-place or anything so I wouldn't have found him except through their referrals.

Good luck with the camera.

1 I don't know if you got your camera fixed yet, but my Sony Cybershot lcd screen is cracked too. I am sending mine to UNITED CAMERA 866-488-8227. It costs $70 and that includes shipping back and forth!

I had my flash fixed with them before and they were great~ .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
