Reverse your question - Why do you continue to believe Christian claims when the evidence of history says they are completely false?! Academia states that in the absence of any sort of evidence of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable evidence is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence. The bible is what is called "Faction” A fictional story set in a factual time and place.
Thus the time, place and real historical characters are all correct but the fictional characters and stories are not! There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!
There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death! He was supposed to have been a huge problem to the Romans and produced wonderful miracles but still not one contemporary record? Even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!
Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter! At best he was an amalgam of those others but almost certainly never existed! Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!
How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead? Please realize that those claims for the Old historians are worthless since they were not even born until long after everyone in the stories would have been so long dead! Josephus AD 37 – AD 100.
I think you misunderstand, as atheists we can and do have faith in certain things without "all" of the evidence being supplied sometimes but the difference is that we usually have "some" evidence to form that faith. To use your atom example, a scientist did not just dream up a concept of the atom with "no evidence", something made the scientist "speculate" about the atom. Now try that with "magical fairies", while I can imagine magical fairies, give them names and create stories about them, is there "any" logical reason to suspect that they are real.
That is how the concept of God works. There are plenty of "superstitious" reasons to believe a magical, super being exists, but there is zero evidence to even "suggest" these magical beings could exist. For example, if an actual "intelligence" could be detected behind nature that would at least give us a "rational" reason to suspect an "unknown intelligent being" was involved, whether it be advanced aliens or magical gods.
We wouldn't have enough evidence, but at least it's a starting point for speculation. We "always" have that "piece of evidence" that allows scientists and inventors to begin the speculation of what the evidence implies, but for Gods or magical fairies there is nothing but pure "imagination" at work. The concept of God is impossible and contradicts nature itself, just like any other magical creature.
Everything that leads to "belief" in God is based on pure "emotion" with no regard for the intellect and as someone else said is the basis of a scam and definitely fits delusion.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
