Was the steroid (cortisone) shot a long acting one? (depo medrol). Some cats can develope diabetes as a result of having steroid shots.

Sometimes the diabetes is temporary or it goes on to being chronic depending on the case. It can happen to cats if giving corticolsteroids chronically (long term). I would bring the cat back for a recheck it's better to be safe than sorry.
