Can humans get rabbies if he accidentaly ate food that a cat tried to eat?

A kid in my neigborhood saw his styrofoam packed lunch being chewed by a cat. When he opened the package he saw that the fried chicken is a bit far from the area where the cat chewed the styrofoam.So the kid started eating it. Can he be infected with rabies (assuming if the feline is rabbied) even if the actual food is a bit far from where the cat chewed the package?

Theoretically, but not likely Rabies virus is present in the saliva of an infected animal. And it is possible that the rabies virus could transmit through the mucous membranes in the mouth if you consume infected saliva. But that's all theoretical.In practice, it's virtually impossible.

Rabid animals tend not to eat very much, because of the paralysis of the neck muscles, so if the animal is eating, it's likely not rabid. (Or it may have acquired the disease only recently and have a low viral load.) It's not like you're gargling with the saliva, either. It spends a little time in contact with the mucous membranes but is swallowed fairly quickly, and is rapidly destroyed by the stomach acids.

Further... rabid animals are usually pretty obvious from the frothing mouth and otherwise unhealthy appearance.It can still be rabid even if it doesn't look rabid, but it further reduces the odds that the animal was. Only if the cat itself had rabies (note spelling. ) Which is very unlikely because a rabid cat would have acted very differently, likely attacking the kid or you, not the source of CHICKEN! My oldest daughter's cat would do that, too.

BTW, rabies is not very common in cats, even strays and ferals, but once a cat is symptomatic, it is probably not going to be too interested in eating anyway, plus it should be pretty clear from the cat's behavior that something is seriously wrong with it.

All in all, given your description of the incident, I think the kid will be fine. I feel sorry for the cat, though, who must have been very hungry to risk stealing the kid's lunch. :(KatherinePS.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
