Can I install mac os x on an external hard drive using windows 7 or 8?

Probably not from your laptop. If you had a new desktop then yes. Were the cords damaged when you pulled the hard drive out?

Because if not then you can just put them back and it will work. Hope this helps.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
