Can you restore a blog from a database backup, or was that just an assumption on my part?

Depending on your blogging platform, it can be a little tricky. When you press the "submit new post" button, a lot happens behind the scenes. If you're using Wordpress, the process isn't overly complicated.

Basically, you need to clear your wordpress cache and insert the data into the tables. This can all be done with phpMyAdmin. PhpMyAdmin is a point-and-click web based interface for mySQL and should make things easier than working with the command line interface.

It depends on what sort of platform the blog is running. Most of them, restoring from database would restore the blog. This is also assuming you have backed up the required information.
