Deep Purple > Led Zeppelin Rush is overrated. The presence of a death growl automatically makes a metal song somewhat retarded (in widely varying levels). The only people who think "Forever Changes" was better than "Sgt.
Pepper" or "Pet Sounds" are deluded hipsters. BQ1: I like all three songs -- I don't know whether I prefer "Alone Again Or" or "Astral Weeks". BQ2: U2 and Radiohead are good bands with some great songs and albums.
They are also unjustifiably overrated -- Radiohead to a greater extent, I think. They deserve praise for songwriting and performing talent, but I wish there were more critics who listened to the lesser known bands that came before them or were around at the same time, just to have more perspective and know where their influences came from. BQ3: I don't really know what shoegaze is -- what little I've heard (like Blur's first album), I've kind of thought of simply as psychedelic rock for the '90s, maybe with a greater emphasis on drone elements.
There are a few post-punk/alternative bands that I listen to and enjoy quite a bit, like Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, and Talking Heads (although I'm not always sure where you draw the line between new wave and post-punk). BQ4: Coldplay I can see still being remembered for a few songs -- I don't buy into the hate for the band, since I think they've made some strong, if unspectacular and non-innovative, music. I can't Imagine Dragons lasting that long.
Then again, who knows -- just as there are periods of revival for obscure bands from the '60s and '70s, eventually you'll have a resurgence in popularity for recent groups.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
