Cat lovers: Do you think orange cats are more temperamental than other colors?

I love orange cats & have wanted one forever. But since I get mostly used cats (hand-me-downs, wild, or strays), I've not yet been able to get one to keep. I've fostered orange adults and kittens, and not noticed a marked personality difference.

Now there's a nice big orange one in our neighborhood that was left behind when his sub-prime mortgage family decamped. I've been feeding him and trying to make friends, which is usually easy for me. But this one will haul off and clobber you for no apparent reason.

Neighbors all say he's mean, and several people have told me that orange cats have a tendency to be temperamental. I'd never heard this before, and sort of don't believe it. I am thinking that it is probably the same thing as how people used to say that red-headed people are hot-headed.

I have had a variety of orange cats. The first, Orange Julius, aka Julius Seize-her, was an independent, self-centered little son of a queen from the day he was born. He was just plain nasty and eventually died of apoplexy at the age of 17, mean and angry to the last.. The next was Tiger-Tiger.

He was an incredible sweetheart. He got along well with our other cats, loved to sit on laps, took his pills with no problems, and in general was a wonderful cat. He came to us as a young adult (with a tire track on his side).

S one idiosyncrasy was that he started to worry and meow when the food level got low in the storage bin. He was starving when we took him in and we figured that was the reason. .

Then there was Butch, a huge orange tom cat who gave himself to us on our wedding day. Although scarred and ill from living life on his own as an unneutered male, he was very sweet and loving. He happily cuddled with people and never fussed with our other cats.

He lived to age 21, just as sweet and gentle as he had always been, in spite of great pain from intestinal cancer.. There was also Bernie, who was the cuddliest cat we ever had and who slept with the other cats - sometimes adult cats act as if all other cats have cooties or something and freak out if they are touched by another cat, even oh, so gently. But not Bernie. He was sweet.. We also now have Milo the Invisible.

He is rarely seen but lives under things in my office. Even though he makes it clear that he would rather not be picked up he never does anything to actively discourage you. He doesn't bite, scratch or even howl.

He just goes limp. So while he isn;'t a sweet cuddler, he isn't mean, either. .

And now we have Shirley, one of three brothers that follow me around all the time. They rather naturally came to be called Shirley, Goodness and Mercy because of this. Shirley is stupid.

He thinks he is a dog. He falls off chairs and beds. He steals food from the dog bowls and begs for treats with the dogs.

But he loves to be petted and periodically decides he must be on your lap. He can manipulate gravity and become extremely heavy when you want him off and he wants himself on. .

So I have had 6 orange cats. One was mean and five were or are sweet or at least unoffensive. And the mean one’s brother was both orange and sweet. In my estimation, it is a false stereotype.. In fact, my current "mean" cat is Franklin, a white cat with patches of grey tabby and a blue-eyed Siamese heritage.

He is not orange at all but many days he would rather bite you than sleep. Or eat. Thank God he no longer has any teeth!.

This particular orange guy you are trying to romance may be worried because his people are gone, or he may have been abused by small children, or he may have been born mean. You don’t know and you may never know. You could always foster him and if he turns out not to be a good fit for your household (for example, if he has a serious fear of Pj's with green stains on the butt) you could pass him on into the system.

. And then try again. There is an orange cat out there for you somewhere.

I am the proud mama of 2 orange kitties.... Mr. Pumpkin is around 10 years old and weighs in at 20 pounds. He has the most easy going personality, is like a big, squishy teddy bear who throws himself on his back to get lovin's. Pumpkin is one of a litter of four, which I got to 'midwife' for their mama back in my workshop in CT...and they all moved with us to FL.

Each with a totally distinct personality. The tiger, Ms. Simba is an aloof snob, Mr. Baby, white, is king of the house and Ms.

Patches a multicolor is skittish Now, we had no sooner arrived for our first night at the new place...when two kittens appeared on the back deck. A 'gift' from the prevoius owner. So, nearly 5 years ago, we got adopted by a Siamese with bright blue eyes named Buffy...and... a light orange female...named Punkin' Li'l.It took some time to tame these two little wild kittens, but PL is our most lovable outdoor cat.

She follows my hubby around like a puppy. She's not one that likes to be picked up and held but she loves being 'with' you. She love to cuddle up next to us...but is not a 'lap cat'.

I'd say, given a little time, you'll be adopted by the abandoned orange cat. Sounds like he's got a little 'catatude' but he'll be moving in with you on 'his terms'...and you'll finally have your very own orange cat. Have you named him yet?

I live in Scotland and have a Scottish orange cat and I assure you that orange cats, just like orange scotsmen, are more temperamental than other colours! --especially if you don't give 'em their daily scotch treat (you may use bourbon in the States). This said, I wouldn't have any other colour (or any other treat...er...yeah).

I have had 3 orange cats in the last 30 years, and have been aquainted with a few others. The first 2 I had were angels. Just as sweet as could be.

One would actually walk with me like a dog when I'd walk my daughter in her stroller. They were both very affectionate, and even friendly with other cats, which I thought was normal at the time, but I'm not so sure now. I had 3 cats at the time - the other one, a girl, was a calico.

They all used to sleep in a heap together. One of the orange ones was left behind when a family down the block moved away. I found out he was abandoned, and brought him food, and he followed me home, and fit right in!

I have also known 2 big orange strays that used to come around occasionally who were very fiesty. I had never had a cat bite me before those 2 - they'd be really affectionate, purring and rubbing against me, and then all of a sudden they'd lash out and either bite me or try to swat me with their paws. The orange cat I have now I found under a bush all alone 7 years ago.

He had been meowing for hours and a friend and I finally found where the mewing was coming from. We figured he might have come from the farm across the road - they had barn cats - maybe his mother forgot about him, I don't know, but he was only 2 to 3 weeks old according to the vet, and I had to feed him with a bottle, and take care of him just like a baby. I thought that since I found him at such an early age that we would have a special bond - after all, I was just like his mother. As he grew he used to try to nurse on my arm or my neck, while kneading madly (OUCH!

). The vet said it was cause he never had the normal nursing experience he would have had with his cat mom. When I would try to gently pull him off he would get mad, and dig in with his claws, and bite even harder!

He still tries to do the same thing to this day - but now I just give him a good swat - trying to remove him gently DOES NOT WORK, he only digs in deeper! I think he must have mental problems - maybe from being separated from his mother and siblings - or maybe it's just cause he's feral! I know he loves me - he sleeps on a pillow on top of my head every night, but if my hand or arm gets in his way he bites.

I had bite and scratch marks on both my forearms for years, but he is calming down a little now. Bottom line is, we had to get to know each other, just like people do. He actually has quite a few facial expressions - so I can pretty much figure out when to back off, and when it's o.k.

To be affectionate. I have learned how to read him and judge his moods. He loves me on his own terms, and I can accept that.

He is just so orange and gorgeous, what can I say? He can be mean, but he's my baby anyway!.

Hes probaly upset If you'd been abandoned & left outdoors to fend for yourself you'd be P&^%$ off too. I have 6 cats, two we adopted from a shelter, the other 4 were abandoned & disowned.....the pure black one has never been all that affectionate...and even the "little one" she was thr runt we adopted from the shelter and shes still a little cat at 5 years old.....is not loving to me at all....... our newest edition WILLOW was not only tortured, beaten, abondoned but declawed. It took us almost a year to gain her trust before we could get close enought to trap her so we could take her to the vet, then bring her in to our home.

Shes black & white........and we have to keep her separated from the other cats even after a year....the trauma she went thru must have been horrible.....shes better but I think she'll never fully recover. So I don't think color makes a difference......I think the conditions the cat is living in has made him a bit feral. I think you should either attempt to keep him, love & nourture him, or trap him and take him to a shelter because the outside is no place for any cat!

WILLOW----one year after we saved her life! .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
