The Chiefs have grown in popularity since you came to Kansas City. Why do think that has happened and what’s different about fans here and where you’re from?

WEIR: I equate popularity with winning. The Chiefs were pretty popular in 1992 when I arrived in Kansas City. The team was winning and gaining national exposure for its great record, superstar players and famous Arrowhead atmosphere.

The “new regime” of Carl Peterson and Marty Schottenheimer breathed life into the team and the city and made it fun to come to the stadium. I didn’t grow up in a major league city (Binghamton, NY), so locally people rooted for a variety of teams, Jets, Giants, Eagles, Patriots. In New York there are lots of demands for fan devotion including tons of professional and college sports plus cultural attractions, the beach, the mountains, and other cities.

When you live on the East Coast, it’s easy to travel around and get away for a few days to New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, DC. I think the biggest difference in Kansas City is that sport is king.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
