Current economic situation in Greece?

I do not pretend to have been following Greece's politics/current events in the last few years, but from what I understand, the government has been going on a huge spending spree in the last decade (with possibly some corruption going on, I really don't know) so once the economy took a turn, Greece was just extra unprepared for it. They now owe the European Union 22 billion dollars, which they need to pay off over the next 3 years. It is of course unfortunate that public spending (i.e.

Pensions) is being cut but (regardless of whether or not the government is corrupt) the bottom line is that the money needs to be paid back. Greece's economic problems are bringing down the whole value of the euro! I understand the people must be very angry at their government, and I do not blame them for wanting to protest, but throwing rocks in shop windows and setting things on fire - well, that's only going to perpetuate more violence.

As for the general strikes, that is largely going to affect tourists coming into the country, which is going to negatively affect your revenues as I'm sure tourism is a main industry in Greece. My sympathies go out to the Greek population but I do not think violent protests are a good way to demonstrate your anger.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
