Did ammonium nitrate fuel the bryan texas fire?

Tens of thousands of residents are being evacuated and the Texas A&M campus is closed as a fire burns at a chemical plant that processes explosive ammonium nitrate. At least 30 injuries have been reported. The fire broke out about noon Thursday.

Bryan-College Station fire dispatcher Andy Throne says the plume of smoke from the El Dorado Chemical Co. Plant extends up to 60 miles from the plant. Fertilizer and other chemicals are blended and packaged at the plant.

About 20 firefighters and other first responders were being treated for respiratory problems at a local hospital, according to Tim Ottinger with St. Joseph Regional Health Center. The hospital said it couldn't accept more patients, so ambulances were diverted to College Station Medical Center. At least 10 people were being treated there, according to spokesperson Melissa Purl.
