Do conservatives realize any spending cuts now would be a Pyrrhic victory for them in the long run?

No domestic programs should be cut. The fat should be trimmed from the foreign aid and grants to countries like Egypt, Libya, etc. which could save around 50 billion for a start. Take a look at the attached map for detail.

The larger problem is what is tacked onto a perfectly reasonable bill, which is then padded with pork and nonsense. The budget can be trimmed without harming programs that people rely on but unfortunately out lawmakers don't have the courage to do so because they are afraid of losing their jobs.

Since #2 is the only spending on your list authorized in the Constitution, that would be the one to keep, although we could possibly reduce it. But the debate about that must be about what we want our military to accomplish and how we maintain that capability in future years. And despite the retarded liberal propaganda to the contrary, we understand that you cannot just eliminate those other programs - but they do need reform and probably should eventually be eliminated in the long run.

People need to be responsible for their own retirement and medical care. These are just not among the enumerated powers of the federal government. If you want them to be, then create an Amendment to do so and have it approved by Congress and the States.

Oh, and welfare includes social security and medicare, since most recipients receive vastly more in benefits than they ever paid into it. Madison, the "father of the Constitution" is famous for saying that he could not lay his finger on a single article or clause in the document that gave the federal government the authority to spend the peoples' money on objects of benevolence. Some people would consider that if the guys who wrote it thought such programs to be unconstitituional, then perhaps they just might be unconstitutional.

Go figure, eh? Similarly, the Dept of Education, the Dept of Labor, HHS, Agriculture, the NLRB, etc are all of highly dubious constitutionality, and certainly do not enjoy being enumerated powers per the 10th Amendment. Or am I being too unclear for you?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
