Do you believe that the Bible is completely inerrant and/or that the Earth/Universe is only 6000 years old? See details?

See details. The Hubble Telescope has watched objects over 10 billion light years away,...That means that the light that Hubble sees was originally produced billions of years before and only reaching the lens of Hubble now. How does modern cosmology and astrophysics effect your faith in Biblical inerrancy, if at all?

Please explain your thoughts/feelings. Asked by GeminiWench 45 months ago Similar questions: Bible completely inerrant Earth Universe 6000 years details Society > Religion & Spirituality.

It is possible for the Bible to be right, and the universe to be billions of years old. The Bible does not set the age of the universe. It relates the creation of the universe during 7 days, but those "days" were not exactly 24 hours long.

What is a day to God? There are other passages in the Bible where a day lasted longer than 24 hours. The point of the creation text is not the 7 day period, but that God was responsible.

This is an argument that crops up from time to time, and I never see the point. The Bible was initially written when people thought the world was flat and diseases were caused by demons. It was not the purpose of the Bible to disprove these theories, and so it communicated its messages in a way the people of the time could understand.

They had enough to argue about, instead of the big bang, evolution, and dinosaurs. I hope this helps. Stars and galaxides millions of light years away have been known for over a century; this isn't going to affect YECs Young earth creationism (YEC) was falsified by science by 1831. It was in that year that Rev Adam Sedgwick -- President of the Royal Geological Society and head of geology at Cambridge -- put the final nail in the coffin of young earth. Modern day YECs don't care.

They have come up with a long list of ad hoc hypotheses to explain the data. The 3 most common are: 1. Light moved much faster in the past.

Setterfield is one example of this. 2. The light was created in transit.3.

God created the universe to look old. The first ignores other consequences of a higher value for c. For instance, it ignores E = mc^2.

If c is millions of times higher in the past (necessary for light to look like it took 10 billion years to get here in less than a 1,000 years), then the energy released by radioactive decay in the earth would melt the planet! Not to mention that the energy output of the sun would have been so high as to melt the earth. The second 2 ad hoc hypotheses run into theological problems.

They mean that God lied to us. So yes, they allow the existence of a deity, but it is a deity that we can't trust and can't worship. This was also recognized by Christians in the 1850s when the idea was first stated in the book Oomphalos by Rev. Paul Gosse.

" It is not my reason, but my conscience which revolts here ... I cannot ...believe that God has written on the rocks one enormous and superfluous lie for all mankind. To this painful dilemma you have brought me, and will, I fear, bring hundreds. It will not make me throw away my Bible. I trust and hope.

I know in whom I have believed, and can trust m to bring my faith safe through this puzzle, as He has through others; but for the young I do fear. I would not for a thousand pounds put your book into my children's hands. " Rev Charles Kingsley to Rev Paul Gosse..

GOD didn't need time or celestial objects for light to shine on Earth; HE simply created it.....read Genesis 1:3-19 Adam was in all likelihood created as a grown man who gave the appearance of age. Likewise with, e.g. , trees in the Garden of Eden. GOD simply spoke, and light WAS.

Later HE made the sun, moon and stars and then HE would make the physical connection between them. This is not a problem for an Infinite GOD. Just like a one day old Adam would be in a body consistent with a body that had gone through certain physiological maturation maybe like a certain amount of harmless spinal compression or a digestive system which would not find mother’s milk the ideal food that would make him different from a one day old baby; certain light which could be measured at Earth could be consistentif it could be studied with light which had traveled a very long distance over many years, and be different than light which is coming from the Sun,when they were ,in fact, created at the same time.

Light years are a measure of distance, not time, plus there are many other scientific and historical factors which can be factored in when calculating the age of the earth / solar system / universe! I think it is terribly interesting how evolutionists go to one factor, distance of stars, which is difficult for creationists, dwell on this one thing and say because of it faith in Biblical inerrancy should be given up. This is in all honesty a very naive viewpoint.

Modern cosmology and astrophysics is much more involved than just measuring distances to stars and not every aspect of it points toward an old universe: Consider some aspects of astrophysics point toward a young universe, including: 1. The existence of comets (these icy things would have long ago MELTED in an older universe) 2. Spiral galaxies 3.

Earth's decaying magnetic field (would be gone by now in a billion year plus universe) 4. Jupiter's decaying magnetic field (same as above) 5. Jupiter's giving off more heat than got from the Sun, same for Uranus (this heat would have been long gone in an older universe) 6.

Creationist Dr. Russ Humphreys accurately predicted the magnetic field of various planets based on a 6,000 year calculation for the age of our solar system while evolutionists were way off I know that evolutionists have "explanations" for the things I have listed above. For instance they suggest an Oort Cloud or Kuiper Belt as a supplier of comets (yet even according to Carl Sagan there is NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE these actually EXIST! ) Creationists have possible explanations for the light travel time too - Russ Humphrey's white hole for instance.

Our actual written history only dates back only 6,000 maybe a bit more years. But evolutionists will argue but we were once apelike creatures that could not write .... REALLY --- no missing links! Also light travel times from stars causes a problem for the BIG BANG too, called the Horizon Problem!

So, no, evolution does not solve that problem ---- even 20 billion years does not give enough time (according to the Big Bang theory) for the equilibrium temps evident in our universe for evolutionists. Yet, I believe in a God Who is able to do MIND Boggling things that "science has not yet figured out" There once was a time 'scientists' believed the universe was in a steady / eternal state, the Bible said the universe was expanding --- only in the 1920s was the Bible proven right. Science caught up.

The issues of conservation of mass and energy, entropy, the earth "hanging in space" were all things that the Bible has taught against the prevailing so called "science" of the day --- but always man's fallible reason has been proven wrong and the Bible right. No, not at all. I think the bible is a work of fiction, created with an evil purpose - to give some the ability to rule others, through their ignorance and fear. While no one can know the true age of the earth or the univers, the information we have been able to glean scientifically, with the methods we have now, indicates an age much longer than 6000 years.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
