I own three One is a software consultancy that provides solutions to the financial services industry. The second is developing a family of avionics products for experimental aircraft builders. The third is about to go to market with a software solution for small businesses.

I put an enormous amount of time into getting the financial services angle off the ground, and it paid off (literally). That provided (most of) the capital for the other two. The other two businesses are there to diversify my work - the market provides high rewards but in return for high risk.

The other businesses won't have the same payoff, but they'll be steadier. Now that the first business is off the ground, I find I put perhaps 10 hours a week into that. I put another 10 into the avionics business, mainly because it's a sideline that I'm not ready to push hard at this point (mainly at the R&D phase).

The third business gets the rest of my time. I figure I put about 60-70 hours a week into it, more in a busy week. I usually work an 8-hour day, then put in another 3-4 hours a night, with some time on the weekends (again mainly in the evenings).

The first business is currently my only source of income, which is why I'm diversifying with the other two. It's been a good run so far, but it's also had its bad days.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
